The aims in Kindergarten are to provide a safe and welcoming environment and ensure the children to get used to the school routine in a calm and confident way.

It is important for children in Kindergarten to form good relationships with the children and adults that surround them. This includes the classroom community and the wider school community.

Children are encouraged to respect and appreciate different cultures and beliefs. In Kindergarten we stimulate the child through new experiences and promote their independent learning.

The child always takes an active role and learns at its own pace. We want to create opportunities for the children to choose and make decisions, use their imagination and ask questions.

Personal, Social and Physical Development
In Kindergarten children will learn how to work, play and cooperate with others. The main focus is on the child’s being and his social development. They will start interacting with other children and with adults. They will start respecting others, sharing things and waiting for their own turn. They will start to develop a sense of what is right and what is wrong.

Physical development in Kindergarten is based mainly on control, mobility and recognition and awareness of space and manipulation. They will be encouraged to be active having fun and learn to use different objects to understand what they can do with their own body. Children will explore different movements keeping them under control, they will follow instructions for their safety and they will work individually, in pairs or in larger groups.

Language
Children are introduced to the English language but the connection between English and their mother tongue is always supported.

In Kindergarten language is taught through many different media. They will listen to stories and have the possibility to access books in the classroom at all times.

They will learn songs and will start using very simple words to communicate. They will start identifying sounds and letters in their names and will try copying them. Children will be able to recognize their own names and those of other children in written form.

Mathematics
In Kindergarten, children will be introduced to the foundational skills of mathematics. They will compare, make sequences and count objects. They will develop their manipulative skills using puzzles and block. They will construct using blocks and lego and measure with sand and water. By the end of the year they will be able to count up to ten and recognize most of the numbers up to ten.

Drama
At this age and stage of development, Drama is a vital and vibrant medium in which children are able to express and respond to feelings or worries. They will be able to develop their confidence through role play and their own imagination. They will also have to face performances and presentations that will help them build on their confidence.

Creativity and Music
In Kindergarten we want to stimulate the children’s imagination in all aspects, and their abilities to express ideas and feelings through their creations. They will be introduced to various different medias such as drawings, painting, printing. Some of their work will be in 3-D to be able to experiment the wide range of possibilities and properties of different materials.

Music in Kindergarten is experimented every day through repetition of songs. They will learn new songs according to the Units of Inquiry and will listen to different rhythms and sounds chosen from different parts of the World, different cultures and musical styles. Children will also explore music making sounds with instruments, their own voices and different body parts.
